The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office says a 15-year-old has been killed after being hit by a vehicle in the 8400 block of Clough Pike early Monday morning.Deputies say the 15-year-old was found in the roadway of Clough Pike just before 1 a.m.Officials say the vehicle, described as a Honda Civic that is missing the front right fender well, was traveling westbound when it hit the teen and was last seen turning into a driveway and fleeing from the scene eastbound on Clough Pike, towards Clermont County.Authorities say the teenager was taken to Mercy Hospital by the Anderson Township Fire Department where he later died.The Hamilton County Coroner has identified the teenager as Eli Jones.According to Larry Hook, Superintendent at the Forest Hills School District, Jones was a 10th grader at Anderson High School.”It is with deep sadness that I inform you of the death of one of our students, Eli Jones, a 10th grader attending Anderson High School. Eli was hit and killed by a driver on Clough Pike around 1 o’clock this morning, according to the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office,” Hook’s statement reads. “This tragedy is devastating to our Anderson High School community and for the entire district. It will surely touch many students and staff members, and may leave parents searching for ways to communicate with their children and ways to help them cope with their grief.”Hook says additional counseling staff will be at Anderson High School on Monday to offer support for anyone who may need it.Hook’s full statement can be found hereThe sheriff’s office said a Jeep with three people inside was driving on Clough Pike when the driver saw Jones’ body in the road and called 911 and waited for law enforcement to arrive. Later, the driver and passengers drove to Taco Bell where two of them are employed when one of them suffered a medical emergency. Another passenger called 911 and was taken to Anderson Mercy Hospital. Deputies say the crash is under investigation. Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call 513-825-1500.
