Officials are investigating after a crash near the University of Cincinnati’s campus left one person dead and two others injured Wednesday. According to reports, around 4 p.m. fire officials responded to a report of a pedestrian hit on Jefferson Avenue. When they got to the scene, officials said two victims were found down in the street. One victim was pronounced dead at the hospital, police said. The other victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Their condition is unknown. UC sophomore Pranee Karir was across the street when he heard a loud crash and a car speeding off. He said he ran outside and found two people lying in the middle of the road.Karir works at the university’s rec center and has CPR certification. He and other students sprang into action until first responders arrived.”We did 33 chest compressions with intervals of 10 seconds each stopped and kept doing it, kept repeating it,” Karir said.Karir bikes everywhere on campus but spent Wednesday studying.”That probably would have been me,” Karir said.UC students gathered around the crash scene. Many were upset and angry, but not all were not shocked.Freshman Aaralyne Estep said recently she was nearly hit while walking across the same road.”Things like this happen all the time,” Estep said. “I was almost hit on this road. People are crazy down here.”Officials said the vehicle that struck the victims, appears to be stolen. One person inside the vehicle had minor injuries and three others fled the scene, officials said.
