INDIANAPOLIS – Police are investigating after one person was killed and several others were hurt in a multi-vehicle crash early Saturday morning on Indy’s near southwest side.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, just after 12:30 a.m., officers were called to multiple reports of a personal injury crash in the 1200 block of South Reisner Street. Police say at least one person was killed in the crash.

Investigators believe a man, who was suspected of drunk driving, was traveling at a high rate of speed, reaching speeds at around 90 mph. The driver crashed into a second vehicle, injuring a pregnant woman who was driving and two children in her car.

The woman was taken to Eskenazi Hospital in stable condition, according to police. Meanwhile, the children were taken to Riley Hospital, one in very critical condition. The other child was reported to be in stable condition, according to police.

Investigators say a male passenger in the suspect vehicle was ejected from the car and found in a nearby ditch. He was pronounced deceased at the scene, police said. Investigators do not believe he was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

The driver was taken into custody after fighting with officers at the scene, according to police.

Police say in addition to the two vehicles involved in the crash, six other vehicles were struck along Reisner Street.
