BENTON COUNTY, Ind. — An investigation is underway after one person was killed in a plane crash in Benton County Monday night.

According to the Benton County Sheriff’s Department, public safety officials are on the scene of a fatal crash involving a single-engine aircraft that occurred southwest of the town of Oxford. BCSD confirmed shortly before 10 p.m. that one person was killed in the crash.

Federal officials with the National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration have also been called to the scene to assist in the investigation.

Law enforcement confirmed that County Road 200 East is currently closed between County Road 700 South and County Road 800 South. Officials urged the public to avoid the area.

The Benton County Coroner’s Office will take charge of the death investigation.
