CHESTERFIELD, Ind. — One person was hospitalized after a house fire in Chesterfield Sunday night.
According to a Facebook post from the East Madison Fire Territory, firefighters were dispatched to the area of Avalon Lane and Idlewood Drive around 10:29 p.m. on a report of a fire. When crews arrived at the scene — roughly three minutes after 911 dispatchers first began receiving calls about the fire — they found smoke coming from the roofline of a residence on Avalon Lane.
Once they located the fire, crews entered the impacted home and found thick smoke inside it.
First responders ultimately found a semi-conscious elderly person in the back of the house. Firefighters removed the elderly individual from the home, and paramedics subsequently transported them to a hospital in Anderson in serious condition.
EMFT reported that the fire was contained to the home’s kitchen area. The blaze was quickly extinguished by firefighters.
Officials have indicated that smoke caused damage throughout the home, even though the fire was confined to one room. Investigators have not yet determined exactly what caused the fire.
