A man is dead after being shot by a Cincinnati police officer at a gas station in Madisonville.It happened around 5:15 p.m. when police responded to an officer-involved shooting in the parking lot of the United Dairy Farmers on Madison Road and Red Bank Expressway.According to Cincinnati FOP President Dan Hils, a Cincinnati police officer was on routine street patrol when she responded to a report of an intoxicated driver in the area. Hil said the officer saw the car dispatchers described and approached the vehicle and its driver. The driver brandished a black semi-automatic pistol at the officer, Hils said. The officer then fired her duty weapon, shooting the man. Police said the man who was shot died at UC Hospital. The officer was not injured but Hils said she is shook up and was taken to the hospital and has since been released. Police did not provide names of those involved but said the person shot was a white male and the officer was a Black female.A gun was recovered at the scene. Hils said the man’s gun was loaded with a round in the chamber.Police said officers are trying to gather more information and sift through the body camera video to determine what exactly unfolded. The officer will be put on administrative leave during the investigation per department policy.”This is just the latest reminder that police work is dangerous and that officers must make split second decisions to enforce the law, protect the public, and defend themselves,” Hils said.This is a developing story that will be updated with information as we receive it.
