A man was fatally wounded, and two others were left in critically condition while driving in the Gresham neighborhood early Saturday morning, Chicago police said.
Shortly after 1 a.m., a 31-year-old man, a second man, 22, and a 25-year-old woman were traveling in a vehicle in the 2000 block of West 87th Street when a black sedan approached them at a traffic light. At least two people inside of the sedan fired about 40 rounds, striking the victims, police said.
The older victim suffered a wound to the head, and was taken in critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
The woman was shot multiple times throughout her body and was taken in critical condition to the same hospital. The second man, 22, suffered multiple wounds to the torso and was taken in critical condition to the University of Chicago Medical Center, police said.
No one was in custody, and detectives were investigating.
