INDIANAPOLIS — A shooting on the near south side of Indianapolis left one person in critical condition Saturday night.
According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department media notification, officers were dispatched to the 300 block of East Caven Street on a report of a person shot around 9:20 p.m. When police arrived at the scene, they located a victim with injuries consistent with gunshot wounds.
Officers rendered aid to the victim until medics arrived at the scene. The victim, who was later identified as an adult male, was transported from the scene to a local hospital in critical condition.
IMPD reported that officers found the victim in the street when they arrived at the scene. Investigators believe a suspect fled the scene on a bicycle after the shooting unfolded.
Police indicated that the victim and suspect likely knew each other. For that reason, officials believe the incident does not pose a larger threat to the community.
IMPD has sent both homicide and aggravated assault units to the scene to investigate the incident. As of this article’s publication, the victim was still in critical condition.
